we don't have the breakdown of energy savings w.r.t. to different parameters (i.e. %age breakdown of how much each factor contributed in savings) but it does seem fair to assume that regeneration is responsible for a good share of it.
that said, give credit where due as it was the proactiveness of TrO Dept and eagerness of LP's that helped them turn this move into success.

We should prima facie believe and appreciate our railway men regarding their claims so that they are motivated to do even much better. We expect that the 1.06 units have been achieved through eliminating wasteful uses of electricity. Hence I whole heartedly appreciated the fact in my first response i.e. Re# 1990370-1.
However, the fact cannot be denied that people have tendency to claim more credit than they actually deserve and many times succeed, as the people are not in a position to judge the fact due to lack of knowledge or lack of appropriate data.

3 phase locos, a huge amount had already been invested with expectation of savings through lower power consumptions. Huge amount was invested in procurement and technology transfer agreement of 3 phase loco based on the justification that substantial savings shall be reaped through use of the loco in regenerative mode of electric power during braking/deceleration of train. (other indirect benefits like reduced maintenance, higher speed etc are also there). So it is a part of SOP of 3 phase loco to regenerate whenever the train is decelerating.
If the saving observed is due to introduction of more number of 3 phase loco over the period of time as suggested in the post Re# 1990370-3, then it is not fair to say pilots have saved 1.06 crore units i.e. 5.13 crore Rs. They certainly deserve credit for adopting the loco with new electricity saving 3 phase regenerative technology. If they have saved more electricity than the expected electricity saving (due to 3 phase loco) as per Standard operating practices for the given volume of traffic/ conditions, they deserve a big pat, and if they saved lesser then the expected, they need to be trained to achieve the desired level of savings in future. We must never be complacent with our sub-optimal achievements and always try to raise our bars higher and higher, then only we can achieve the standard benchmarks of excellence.
Running special caimpaign and making & distributing energy booklets for energy saving is a commendable job and show strong intention & efforts of Rly management to save electricity.

regeneration isn't always possible sir, there are issues of wheel slipping owing to use of regenerative braking. Besides to use regenrative braking the line needs to be receptive i.e. there needs to be another train on line or in the concerned section drawing more power. I'm not sure how busy NGP division of CR is (Shivam Sir, Awes Khan sir should be able to tell this better), especially w.r.t. to freight but if there are time slots when activity is low regenration isn't going to be used.
and taking more credit than required is a usual policy of government employees :P

Regenerative breaking should be very much beneficial to IRlys as the other railways have demonstrated it and IRly have purchased the costly loco/technology based on their experience. Wheel slip occur when braking action is too strong i.e. reverse torque of traction motors (i.e. acting as generators in regeneration mode) cause a braking force at wheels exceeding the limiting frictional value at the instantaneous speed. Braking systems have been designed to take maximum advantage of regenerative braking (i.e. to generate maximum electricity) by applying a frictional force close to but slightly lesser than the maximum limit at the given speed. Regenerative braking is not a total braking system and It cannot be used to bring a train to complete halt as it does not work efficiently at very low speed, mechanical brakes are used for the purpose. It is meant to regenerate while decelerating for wide range of speed.

section on NGP division on CR are mostly part of Super saturated golden Quadrilateral and loaded with heavy traffic. ET-NGP, NGP-Ballarsha are taken for tripling. Wardha-Badnera is also part of Mumbai-HWH trunk line. So traffic is not an issue. In fact electrification of routes had been done in IRlys based on the occurrence high traffic over the routes.
