This is my assumption on how things are going on IR even if upper class occupancy is just 50% and the sleeper is full still they get the income of full train because of full occupancy in sleeper due to higher fares. This is reason for running suvidha trains. An issultration sleeper 6*72 = 432 *500 = 21600 (avg fare of sleeper per ticket) 3AC 2*64= 128 * 1200 = 153600 2AC 46* 1800= 82800 total income of ordinary train is 452400. Now suvidha calculations 432 * 1000 (considering the fares runs from 1x to 3x = 432000 consider 50% occupancy in 3AC and avg fare 2000 64*2000= 128000 now total comes to 560000. Even with nil occupancy in 2AC and 50% in 3AC the total income is 560000. So they run suvidha special instead of ordinary special. This is what is going on in BBS SBC suvidha...
more... special though the occupancy in upper class is less still they are pushing suvidha concept on travellers every time even in non seasons. When fare is high in upper class the traveller opts for another mode if available or downgrades his class according to his budget. They need not remove upper class ( 2AC) as they I'll be lucky travellers who book early and pay 30-50% extra and occupancy is 20-30% which is profit for IR. Running suvidha or tatkal fare decision is being taken by specials run by that zone. While SCR is running tatkal specials without effecting occupancy ECOR is running suvidha considering the income even though occupancy gets hit. The most pity thing us sambalpur SBC special running as suvidha poor travellers have been suffering at least they should convert as tatkal special. Even if tatkal special is run they I'll get good occupancy in all classes plus 30% extra which more less equal to income of that of suvidha. The decisions of respective zones are effecting travellers.
