LPs only will operate these trains, but not from driver's cabin. They will operate (drive) the trains from control room. And speaking about efficiency, the automation gives them chance to run multiple trains at the same time.
Driverless cars will render a lot of car drivers jobless. But that issue is not for this forum. There aren't lot of LPs for one to become jobless. Matter of fact, there is scarcity of LPs as many prefer desk jobs over driving trains.

LP's won't operate these trains. They are fully computer-controlled (using advanced signalling systems from Nippon) and don't need any human supervision.
The Delhi Metro's system is of the highest 'Grade of Automation'( GoA of 4), which means that the trains are capable of complete automation (moving between stations, announcements inside the train, opening and closing of doors etc). Such systems are capable of operating without any drivers.
That said, I think it is sort of an overkill to have an exhaustive automation like this in India, where there is a considerable workforce

available. Particularly, a metro is a very specialized railway line. So, driver performance is not really a limiting factor in the efficiency, or train frequency. I would see this as mainly a cost-cutting effort.
While cost-cutting is definitely something that should be given importance, I think it is possible to find a middle ground here (going for a lower grade of automation, like most other countries).

Well, if cost-cutting is important, then they should allow more other jobs than LPs. LPs are very cost intensive. They are a specialized jobs. It starts with their training and the training (refreshers) continuously takes place. And they need to undergo periodic physical and mental health checkups. Now every year, a new Metro section is opening somewhere in the country, so authorities also have to be careful about poaching from other Metros. If we talk of railways, number of LPs who don't complete 20 years of driving is good as they prefer desk jobs (preferably 9-5 type with the benefits of all govt. holidays and those of running staff). And it gets easy for them during the periodic medical checkups to recuse themselves from driving.

is better to automate than such risks.

I'am against driverless trains, but prefer trains with drivers where drivers are supported by automatic systems to ensure perfection & safety in train operation.
