Changing City: Indian Railways to roll out Kavach anti-collision technology from Churchgate to Virar in MumbaiThe Indian Railway Ministry is implementing Kavach, an advanced Automatic Train Protection (ATP) system, across the Western Railway zone, spanning 789 km, including a 56-km stretch from Churchgate to Virar in Mumbai. Kavach is designed to prevent collisions by automatically activating train braking systems if a loco pilot ignores red signals....

The project, costing Rs 70 lakh per unit, is expected to be fully operational by 2025. Contracts for installing Kavach on 789 km of tracks and 90 locomotives were awarded in October 2022 and December 2023, with a 24-month completion period. Successful loco trials have been completed for 405 km, and the target for FY 2024-25 is to cover 735 km. While the Mumbai Central to Virar suburban section (54 km) contract for Kavach installation was awarded on December 27, 2023, the technology will only be used for long-distance trains, not suburban trains. The Western Railway anticipates Kavach's implementation to significantly enhance safety and operational efficiency.
Indian Railway Ministry, long-distance trains ke safety aur operations ko behtar banane ke liye, Western Railway zone mein Kavach technology laane wala hai. Yeh project 789 km tak chalega, jisme Mumbai ke Churchgate se Virar tak ka 56 km ka stretch bhi include hai. Kavach, Automatic Train Protection (ATP) system hai,...

Agar loco pilot, red signal ko ignore karta hai, toh Kavach automatically train ke braking system ko control karta hai. Saath hi, yeh system same track par aane wali dusri trains ko bhi detect karta hai, aur collisions se bachne ke liye action leta hai aur loco pilot ko alert bhi karta hai. Har unit ke liye Rs 70 lakh ka kharcha aane wala hai, aur yeh technology 2025 tak fully operational hone ki ummid hai. October 2022 aur December 2023 mein, 789 km track aur 90 locos pe Kavach install karne ke liye contracts diye gaye, jinka completion period 24 months hai. Ab tak, 789 km mein se 405 km pe loco trials successful ho chuke hain, aur FY 2024-25 mein 735 km tak cover karne ka target hai. Mumbai Central se Virar suburban section (54 km) ke liye Kavach install karne ka contract December 27, 2023 ko diya gaya, lekin yeh technology sirf long-distance trains ke liye hai, suburban trains ke liye nahi. Western Railway ko ummid hai ki Kavach ki implementation se safety aur operational efficiency mein kaafi improvement aayega.
