OBSERVATIONS
Most trains only stop for 2 to 5 minutes at the station. Though there are coach indicators, people still sometimes miss their trains since the SL and GN coaches can be quite crowded. I railfanned on my first day and saw a guy being thrown out of the AC Pantry Car of a RUNNING TRAIN because he was probably an unreserved pax boarding in an unauthorised manner. [ Still, throwing from a running train could be limb threathening easily; IMO, shouldn't have been done, better to hand over to in train...
more... RPF]. On my last day, I saw many folks missing trains since the GN and SL coaches were stuffed to the brim and train didn't stop for more than 2 mins. Better to board from an AC coach, preferably AC 2 Tier and then make their way to the coach. A longish route, but probably better since the trains stop for quite small amounts of time. I also saw an RPF guy violently stop a person from boarding a running train. The idiot guy still, ran after being thrown, and boarded the train[ despite another train coming bound for same direction couple of minutes later]. The RPF was flabbergasted, saying to passengers, that all his efforts were in vain due to such people.
Coming to the retiring rooms, they are expensive here. I had to pay 1300 for 12 hrs which was much expensive than either Guwahati or Allahabad. There is also a Maharaja suite here which is even more expensive. The services here seem not to be managed by IRCTC or IR but by a third party. The room was cleaned in front of me and was properly maintained. Properly air conditioned with good linens and bathroom. If someone wishes to go to GWL for any reason, the station retiring room is expensive but gives a good experience.
This is technically not train related, but please do your food near the station only. Many locations in the city didn't have proper eateries and I was disappointed at the food choices. There was nothing unique food wise that one would find. Nothing like the romance of finding a good hole in the wall kebab shop when wandering the streets of Lucknow, let's say. It does have pretty good tourist places to see with the flagship being the Gwalior fort [ not too far from the main rail station ]. There is a domestic airport but only to big cities like Delhi and Bombay, do they run. Direct transport from rail station wasn't available, unless one books a cab. I had to change once.

Yo, most trains only stop for like 2 to 5 minutes at the station. Even though they got them coach indicators, peeps still be missing their trains sometimes 'cause them SL and GN coaches be hella crowded. On my first day, I was out there railfanning and I peeped this dude gettin' thrown out of the AC Pantry Car of a RUNNING TRAIN 'cause he was probly tryna board without a ticket in some unauthorized way. That's risky AF, man; in my opinion, they shouldn't have done that shit. They could've just handed him over to the in train RPF. On my last day, I saw mad folks missin' their trains 'cause them GN and SL coaches was packed like sardines and the train didn't stop for more than 2 mins. It's better to hop on from an AC coach, preferably AC 2 Tier, and then make your way to your coach. It's a longer route, but prolly better since them trains only stop for like a hot minute. I also witnessed an RPF guy straight up stop a person from tryna jump on a running train. This dumbass still tried to run and managed to get on the train, even though another train headed the same way was comin' just a few minutes later. The RPF officer was shook, telling all the passengers that his efforts was all for nothin' 'cause of fools like that guy.
Now let's talk 'bout them retiring rooms. Man, them shits be expensive AF over here. I had to shell out 1300 bucks for just 12 hours, makin' it way more costly than what I paid in Guwahati or Allahabad. There's this fancy Maharaja suite too which be even more expensive. It seems like the services here ain't runnin' by IRCTC or IR; some third party be doin' the management. The room was cleaned right in front of my eyes and it was kept up real nice. Proper AC, fresh linens, and a clean-ass bathroom. If someone wants to go to GWL for whatever reason, the station's retiring room might be pricey, but it gives you a dope experience, ya feel me?
This ain't exactly train-related, but I gotta say, stick to eatin' your grub near the station, fam. There ain't many good eateries in the city and I was hella let down by the food choices. Ain't no unique food joints or nothin' like that. Ain't nothin' like the thrill of discoverin' a bomb-ass hole in the wall kebab spot while you wander the streets of Lucknow, you know what I mean? Gwalior do got some dope tourist attractions, tho, especially the Gwalior fort which ain't too far from the main rail station. They got a domestic airport too, but flights only go to big cities like Delhi and Bombay. Ain't no direct transport from the rail station, you gotta book a cab or switch rides like I did.

Meri aakhri din maine dekha ki log trains miss kar rahe the kyunki GN aur SL coaches bhar gaye the aur train sirf 2 minute ke liye ruki thi. Behtar hai AC coach se travel karo, preferably AC 2 Tier aur phir apne coach tak jaao. Lamba rasta hai, lekin shayad behtar hai kyunki trains thodi der ke liye hi rukti hai. Maine ek RPF banda ko bhi dekha jo tezi se daudte hue kisi ko train mein chadne se roka tha. Wo bewakoof banda phir bhi ye kartab karne ke baad daud gaya aur train mein chad gaya [abhi to do minute baad uss hi disha ki train aa rahi thi].
Waha ek Maharaja suite bhi hai jo aur zyada mahenga hai. Waha ki services lagta hai ki IRCTC ya IR nahi handle kar rahe hai, balki kisi third party ke through manage ho rahi hai. Room mere saamne saaf kiya gaya tha aur ache tarike se maintain bhi kiya gaya tha. Proper air conditioned tha, acche linens aur bathroom ke saath. Agar koi GWL jaana chahta hai kisi bhi wajah se, toh station retiring room me mahenga hai, lekin waha acha anubhav milta hai.
Ye technically train se nahi related hai, par kripya station ke paas hi khana khaye. Sheher ke bahut saare jagah thik se khaane ki jagah nahi thi aur mujhe khaane ki variety pe ghamand aaya. Waha kuch aisa unique khana nahi tha jo koi bhi mile. Woh Lucknow ke galiyon mein ghoomte waqt ek achhe hole in the wall kebab shop milne ki romance jaisa kuch nahi tha. Waha bahut ache tourist spots hai, jisme sabse bada hai Gwalior fort [jyada door nahi hai main rail station se]. Waha ek domestic airport hai lekin sirf bade cities jaise Delhi aur Bombay ke liye flights chalte hai. Direct transport rail station se nahi tha, bas agar taxi book karo toh ek baar change karna pada mujhe.
