It is a good train to travel to Konkan. Departs late in the night (next day 12.05 am) and hence good for office goers to log off in the evening and take this train. Here are the tips from my regular travel in this train:

1. Coaches and Maintenance: Tutari still runs with ICF coaches but the cleanliness in the coaches is top-notch. There is Onboard Housekeeping Service (OBHS) available on the train which keep the coaches clean. They sweep the floor atleast twice during a single journey and you can ask

them to clean whenever you feel there is a requirement.

2. Amenities: Charging Points and Mirrors are available in 3AC coaches. Toilets are clean. Some good amenities in the coach provided like Seat Indicators, Handle to climb up the upper berth, etc.

3. Crowd: Relatively less crowded than Konkankanya. This train halts at many stations enroute in Konkan region which is an advantage. In the peak seasons of Ganesh Chathurthi and Holi, each and every train on Konkan takes about 300% of its capacity so can't comment on the occupancy during peak period.

4. Food: Tutari doesn't have a pantry can and hence food is supplied by a Contractor form Kumta. Snacks like Sheera Upma (orange colored sheera), Bread Omlette, etc. are served in 11003 (Down)Train for breakfast. The snacks are average and OK. The food is a bigger dissapointment on 11004 (UP) Tutari. We tasted Chapati Bhaaji and Biryani and both were really bad. Avoid having Dinner in 11004. At Ratnagiri, there would be Vendors selling vadapavs and those should be avoided at any cost. They just fry the vadas multiple times and it becomes tasteless. Better to pack something from a local restaurant near the boarding station or take home cooked food.

5. Railfanning: It is a great train for Railfans as it takes many halts enroute and waits for crossing of most of the trains. It gets a lower proiority in the section and ends up being late by an average of 1.5 hrs on the enroute stations. 11004 has a scheduled overtake by Konkankanya at Indapur and it is a blazing one to witness in pitch darkness.

Overall: I prefer this train due to the timings and the cleanliness but food is a major dissappointment. Additionally, 11004 reaches Thane at a decent timing at around 6 am and you would be able to get better transport options (rather than Konkankanya that arrives way too early).

Have a safe trip,
Cheers,
Vivek

These days, every other day, we are getting requests from members to allow email login to their FB-based IRI account. 10 years ago, we had given the option for users to login through FaceBook - in retrospect, this was a mistake. These days, apparently, users are quitting FaceBook in droves because...
