Some history. British wanted to keep BPB-LMG MG section as a Heritage Railway Service. So in 1937 they started constructing Silchar to Chhatak Bazar DG(Dual Gauge/BG+MG) line via Badarpur Jn. - Karimganj - Maishashan - Shahbazpur - Kulaura Jn. - Sylhet. A BG line was being made 2 connect from Sylhet to Guwahati via Chhatak Bazar - Companyganj - Sunamganj - Jamalganj - Mohanganj - Netrakona - Phulpur - Sherpur - Mahendraganj - Mankachar - Rowmari - Hatisinghmari - Milanpur - Lakhipur - Goalpara. British completed laying of Silchar to Chhatak Bazar DG line in 1938. But before they could finish Sylhet - Guwahati BG line construction, Pakistan Resolution was passed & Communal clashed became normal in Sylhet region from 1940-47. more... Kulaura to Silchar was made into MG line with removing adjacent BG rails from the common rail slipper. Silchar became dependent on BPB-LMG section to connect with rest of India through a volatile disaster prone region of Dima Hasao only. So the history & past of 75 yrs is haunting NFR now.
