Every Chief Minister in Maharashtra has been promising that there will be no power cuts in Maharashtra from the time their party has come to power. If we recollect, the Enron power project was scrapped and there has been no indigenous entity to generate and supply 24 X 7 Power in Maharashtra.
Therefore, the moot point is that if Navi Mumbai (Vashi to Panvel) has to become a Smart City, it cannot afford to have any power cuts and it should have 24 X 7 power supply round the clock. Likewise, the below instances summarize the view that MSEDCL does not have the required capacity to supply 24 X 7 power to Navi Mumbai residents from Vashi to Panvel. This has...
more... been happening for the last 30 years and it is high time the Maharashtra Government understands the need for changing the Power Distributor in Navi Mumbai from MSEDCL to another player like Reliance or TATA Power. TATA Power will supply cheaper power and also insulate Navi Mumbai by supplying 24 X 7 power for Navi Mumbai from Vashi to Panvel.
MSEDCL has been resorting to load shedding and irregular power cuts in Khanda Colony Sector 9. The residents have been suffering and the situation does not seem to improve. There was a power cut on 8th Feb 2017 from 10.00 a.m.to 2.00 p.m and again on 11th Feb 2017 from 8.30 a.m. to 10.00 a.m. These irregular power cuts disturbs the residents work schedule and they suffer financial loss.
MSEDCL has been torturing the residents over the last 30 years despite paying all their bills regularly and that too well before the due date. Load shedding is not the solution and electricity generation is the need of the hour.
As a result of such power cuts, the following are the problems faced by the residents:-
1. Children and senior citizens cannot cope up with the heat and suffocation and suffer from various ailments.
2. Costly vegetables, fruits, milk, batter and other perishables etc stored in the refrigerator get spoiled leading to tremendous losses.
3. The mobile phones conk off and the Internet connection gets disrupted and communication is cut off leading to severe inconvenience.
4. Digitization goes for a toss as payments cannot be made online or from the mobile.
5. The age old practice of installing generators/inverters does not solve the issue as this leads to pollution on account of release of more gases and depletes the ozone layer and deprives the city and country of earning carbon credits.
We appeal to HT Navi Mumbai to kindly take up the matter with MSEDCL immediately and the Maharashtra Government and get this resolved permanently. These power cuts destroy an upcoming Smart City- Navi Mumbai.
