Operational Ratio Stats of all the Zones of Indian Railways, Released by CAG.
**Operational Ratio Meaning- The financial health of the railways is determined by its Operating Ratio (OR). Operating Ratio indicates how much railway spends to earn a rupee. An Operating Ratio of 90% means that Railway is spending 90 paisa to earn 100 paisa (i.e. one rupee). A lower figure of Operating Ratio is thus regarded better and is indicative of better financial health of the system.

having Operational Ratio more than 100 are spending more than they earn means they are in Loss.
-:NER, NFR & ER( Excluding Kolkata Metro) are the biggest loss making Zones of IR whereas SECR, ECoR & WCR are the biggest gainers respectively.

Yes, I am just voicing the opinion of almost all Dhanbad based passenger associations. Infact they met the CM of Jharkhand recently and demanded DHN division to be pulled back into ER or SER. So the answer to your question is a Biiiiig YES. I am reiterating that I am not in favor of further divisions, all I want is DHN be pulled back to the correct division. ECR is blatantly ignoring DHN Division which is actually giving it the highest revenues. Infact the CM of Jharkhand has even demanded a new Zone for Jharkhand. Though I am not personally favoring this demand, but his argument is based on the fact that when more than 60% of Jharkhand's railway projects are funded by the state, why can't it have a zone for itself that is headquartered in the state.

Sir, Railway k Karta dhartao ko koi fark nahi padta ki kaunsa zone ya division kitna profit deta hai ya nahi. Trains political pressure or approach se he milta hai. Agar revenue generation k hisab se RB zones or division ko preference deta to ek aise zone pe Traino ki barish na ho rahi hoti jiska Operating ratio 193 hai. Sub Rajneeti hai bandhu Agar DHN ER ya SER me chala bhi gaya to ise tab tak koi fayda nahi hoga jub tak Delhi me iski Pairwi karne waala koi hath na ho.

Well said and that's exactly what has been the cause of ailment of such a wonderful organization. Years of populist and politically motivated decisions have brought IR to this stage. It can no longer survive this burden if the same continues. Now is the time to take tough decisions or be gone for ever. Rightfully so, Mr. Prabhu is talking about high-cost premium services, more emphasis on freight services and other stuff that actually bring money to the railways. Without these even welfare services like suburban, local/passengers services cannot be provided. People keep asking for new trains but most of the time they are unwilling to pay a cost for those services. Restructuring of railways is the thing that has already been initiated. We will see more such stuff. The zones that make money obviously deserve the service PERIOD ...whats the doubt about it.
