If the gap between the two is moderate, i.e. about 4-6 hours accounting all delays, early runs and on time runs, so that it does not create any problem for you, then it is good
As per I know Mahabodhi Express remains punctual throughout the year except in the winters. And Jammu Tawi - Kolkata Express arrives at Gaya mostly 1-1.5 hrs Delayed.
Mahabodhi is good train to have upto DDU/Gaya. I suppose you will get connecting train
