Rly unions are often affiliated to or have links with politicians who consider IR workers as vote banks. With the intensity of political interference prevalent in IR, it is very easy for Union office bearers to arm twist the IR management to fulfil their vested interests. These office bearers maintain their status by remaining surrounded by a coterie of fellow supporters, who easily manage to bunk the duty and get full salary.
