Since 1993, a 40% surcharge on passenger fares and a 50% surcharge on freight transport have been levied on the Konkan Railway line due to its high construction costs, which have not been adjusted for 31 years. The KRC's proposal to double 141 kilometers of track has been rejected due to the lack of financial support from state governments, leading to its dismissal by the Railway Board and the Ministry of Finance.
