Tbh like it or not having an AI flight is of no use to regular international flyers coz the service is average and the price is exorbitant. BA or AA would have been useful but really, how many people from Kolkata regularly travel to those cities and vice versa and would that fill a wide body jetliner (330/777)? I'm sure if it was feasible, BA or AA would have run it. They stopped due to lack of passengers. What fuels passengers is if there are lots of MNC and Big Tech which Mumbai, Bengaluru, Delhi and Hyderabad have but Kolkata hardly has any.

Kolkata - London sector has adequate passenger traffic to sustain a direct flight. Even flight officials accepted the same when the Kolkata - London flight was withdrawn in 2022. More than the passenger traffic, it's actually the cargo traffic that brings profit for these international flights and Kolkata may lag in that sector. Moreover, along with the CUU-LHR flight, AI also cancelled BLR-LHR flight in 2022 citing lack of fleets. Recently in August, they reintroduced the BLR flight and as per news, the CCU-LHR flight is likely to be reintroduced by dec.

i dont agree with the fact that the no of MNCs decides whether a international sector will be served or not. For instance, take the example of Amritsar. It hardly has any big MNCs but still has direct flights for London and Birmingham. Same logic can be applied for Kochi that too has a direct flight for London. At the end of the days, it's the demand that a route has which decides whether that route will be served or not.

After addition of A350 on DEL-LHR route. A B777 and B787 are now available. In which I guess, the B787 is added on BLR-LGW route. Let's hope that AI should add atleast at B787 flight from LHR to CCU.

ASR has different reality. Most of the Punjabi population are going to UK or Canada and so ASR is the case that it is a immigrant capital. If demand is high then why is BA or AA not running? BA stopped due to lack of demand I believe. AI might resume but AI is of no use to regular middle class travellers, too costly, its more costly than Emirates and service doesn't even compare to Emirates. I'd rather take CCU-Abu Dhabi-LHR Emirates than direct CCU-LHR AI. (I actually use the JFK-AUD-CCU a lot, as I'm a regular in JFK-CCU route ). Also CCU's international terminal is ancient. They gotta ramp it up. It's nowhere compared to BLR or DEL or BOM

The problem with Kolkata is low corporate traffic, leading to low business class travel. You cannot sustain long haul flights without business class being substantially occupied.

That is the reason Kolkata has fallen behind.

Air India is now focusing on building hubs - DEL, BOM, HYD. Don't see amazing days for CCU. Focus should be on reinstating Asian connections - Hong Kong, Kunming etc etc

These days, every other day, we are getting requests from members to allow email login to their FB-based IRI account. 10 years ago, we had given the option for users to login through FaceBook - in retrospect, this was a mistake. These days, apparently, users are quitting FaceBook in droves because...
