Once in May 2013,when I was onboard TN from MAS before Arambakkam, train was rattling at flat MPS. Suddenly emergency brakes were applied and we came to a grinding halt from 110 to 0. I was sleeping on SLB. Suddenly I heard some sounds as if stones were flying under the coach and hitting the undercarriage. All of us woke up with a start because the CBC jerk was so frightening due to the hard braking. Some people got down and checked up what happened. Guard hurried to the P4 to check what exactly happened. P4 had run over on a buffalo. That buffalo had got crushed under the coach wheels which produced that scary noise. Emergency brakes were applied to avoid hitting the animal. It was dark and hence, was too late when the animal was spotted. I heard something which seems to be hilarious and at the same time...
more... grave. A toilet in S13 coach broke completely meaning the entire flooring and the toilet seat and everything just sank down completely on the tracks due to the braking force. If anyone had used it at that time, they would have also fallen down onto the tracks which may have been fatal. People were thanking God that nobody used the toilet at that time! The LP also mentioned that had our train been on a curve, coaches would have jumped off the rails proving fatal for passengers. Thank God,we were on straight tracks. After a 30 min halt, we departed with the same loco and made it 20 mins ahead of schedule at BZA! :D
